I’m Matt, the Club’s President for 2026-27. I’m going into my 3rd year studying Mathematics, a subject common to many of the club’s members. I’ve been running since the first lockdown and specialise in the endurance and cross-country faction of the club. I can’t say enough about how the club has shaped my university experience and highly recommend joining us (of course I would say that but please come along and find out what the club is all about for yourself).
WUAXC had around 150 members in the 2025-26 with members competing across a range of disciplines and participating in a lively social scene. We are a welcoming and friendly club for everyone of all abilities. The club offers: endurance track sessions, coached sprint sessions, circuit training, social runs, women’s-only runs and as of this year throws coaching as well.
Our women’s cross-country team compete in the Women’s Midland XC League, having been promoted this year into division 1. Our men’s cross-country team compete in division 1 of the Birmingham XC League. Although division 1 may sound scary, we’ve never had someone who wanted to compete look out of place in a race and I encourage anyone who wants to try it out to speak to one of our Men’s or Women’s XC Captains.
Our track and field athletes compete at both BUCS indoors and outdoors each year. (BUCS being ‘the governing body for sport in higher education in the United Kingdom’ – Wikipedia.)
As well as competing and training, we foster a great social atmosphere, aiming to run a social each week. Our pair of socials secs do a fantastic job; my notable highlights of last year were watching England in the world cup, laser tag and attending many a ‘circle’…
I’m looking forward to welcoming both returners and new members to the club for hopefully our best year ever!!
